| Welcome to the Home of the Hidden Valley Ski Team Hidden Valley Ski Team - Overview The Hidden Valley Ski Team (HVST) is a not-for-profit corporation in the State of Missouri. It was formed for the purpose of promoting junior ski racing at all levels of ability, through local training and participation in regional and national ski racing programs. The Hidden Valley Ski Team is not affiliated with Hidden Valley Ski Area, but training facilities are provided courtesy of Hidden Valley Ski Area. Hidden Valley Ski Team is not a mechanism for teaching novice skiers. Hidden Valley Ski School and other ski schools should be utilized for teaching of basic skiing techniques. As a minimum, all potential HVST members should have developed their skiing skills to the point of performing early stage parallel turns. There are three types of membership, Introductory, Development Team and Travel Team. Introductory membership is, as the name suggests, to provide an introduction to the ski team for those who are unsure of their interest and level of commitment. These members train only on Saturday mornings. Introductory members may convert to Development or Travel Team members during the season, by paying the cost difference between the two membership types. Development Team membership is for those Juniors who, while they are just starting ski racing are more certain of their interest, and whose primary goal at the moment is to improve their skiing techniques and ability. Training sessions are available for Development Team members on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Racing opportunities are limited to team sponsored training, any charity or other races which may be held at Hidden Valley, and NASTAR and other citizen races. Development Team members may convert to Travel Team members during the season, by paying the cost difference between the two membership types. Travel Team membership is for those Juniors whose ability and goals have developed to the point that they wish to challenge themselves in competitions with other racers outside the St. Louis area. Training sessions are available for Travel Team members on Tuesday evenings, Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Racing opportunities are available through the Wisconsin-Illinois-Iowa Junior Alpine Racing Association (WIJARA) and the Central Region of USSA (United States Ski Association), as well as those noted above for Development Team members. WIJARA races are held primarily in northern Illinois and Iowa and southern Wisconsin. USSA races are held primarily in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, with only a few races held closer to St. Louis. Travel Team membership does not include any transportation to and from races, or accommodations and meals while at races. Each racer is required to make their own arrangements for these items. In order to be a member of the Hidden Valley Ski Team, a USSA membership is required. Membership costs for Team members 12 years old and younger is $45 for a Youth Competitor license. Those Members 13 and older who are not racing USSA may obtain a Non-Scored Student license for $70. Those Members 13 and older who are racing USSA must obtain a Competitors license for $125. Age is determined as of Dec. 31st of the current race season. Go to the Application and Forms page for a USSA application. Dryland training is included with all of the above memberships. It is held on Sat. mornings beginning in early September, and continues until Hidden Valley opens. The training consists of exercises for strength, agility, and general conditioning and gate training utilizing in-line skates. Skates, helmets, wrist guards and kneepads are required. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
