| STEPS TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS What follows is a simplified explanation which shows the progression needed to attain the goal of the U.S. Ski Team. YOUTH SKI LEAGUE: A membership program of USSA that is strictly for athletes that wish to remain in a non-competitive program. Youth Ski League members are not entitled to compete in any Age Class or Ability Class competition in USSA/Central but must compete in only Youth Ski League competitions. If a YSL member wishes to upgrade their membership to competitor, they are required to call the membership department of USSA and make that request and pay additional fees. WIJARA is a Youth Ski League. STUDENT LICENSES: Members carrying the Student license are permitted entry into the Age Class program but cannot qualify for the J3-4 Championships at the end of the season. They are also not permitted entry into any Ability race within Central. Members wishing to upgrade to fully licensed member are asked to call the membership department of USSA and pay additional fees. AGE CLASS: Divisional entry level competition. Not scored on the National points list. Age class competitions are used for both movement to Ability Class and qualification to the J3-4 Championships. Criteria for moving up to Ability Class and qualification for the J3-4 Championships are contained in your Regional Manual/Handbook from your Regional Chair. ABILITY CLASS: Divisional intermediate level competition. Scored on the National points list. Ability Class competitions are used to determine Regional Mid-America and J3-4 Championships quota selections. MID-AMERICA SERIES: Divisional elite level competition. Automatic criteria and Regional quota information are contained in the Mid-America Series section of the USSA Alpine Competition Guide. Regional quota selection criteria is contained in your individual Regional handbook which can be obtained from your Regional Chair. The Mid-America Series is the selection series for Divisional Championships field; the Junior 1-2 Olympic team; US Nationals; Nor-Ams; Central Ski Team and any out of Division selection to other FIS races. DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Mid-American Series Finale. Selection criteria contained in the Divisional section of the USSA Alpine Competition Guide. Regional quota selection criteria is contained in your individual Regional handbook which can be obtained from your Regional Chair. The Divisional Championships are the final selection series for the J1-2 Olympic Team, US Nationals and Nor-Ams for the remainder of the season. JUNIOR OLYMPICS: Junior Olympic Team are selected via current season's results from Mid-America Series; the Divisional Championships and the J3-4 Championships. Criteria and quotas are contained in the individual sections in the USSA Alpine Competition Guide. All team slots are awarded based on performance at identified events. REGIONAL FIS SERIES/US NATIONALS/NOR-AMS: National level events. The Regional FIS; US Nationals and Nor-Ams are National level events that are subject to quota restrictions. Central shares a Regional quota for each of these series. Consult the section of the USSA Alpine Competition Guide that pertains to these National level events. ROCKY/CENTRAL REGIONAL TEAM: This team is comprised of any Central or Rocky athlete that meets the criteria. Consult the USSA Alpine Competition Guide for information on the criteria. UNITED STATES SKI TEAM A, B AND C: The selection criteria for being named to the USST A, B and C Teams is provided in your USSA Alpine Competition Guide. |
