We're excited you're interested in joining the Hidden Valley Ski Team! Whether your athlete is new to ski racing or looking to continue developing their skills, we're here to help make the process simple. The information below explains everything you need to know about joining our team.

 

New Process for Joining the Hidden Valley Ski Team in 2026/2027

 

We will NOT be holding traditional tryouts for Development 1, Development 2, or Race Team. Instead, all new athletes selected to join HVST will begin the season in our Development 1 (D1) program. Initial acceptance into D1 will be based on the athlete's application, coaches interview with the parents and available team spots.
Once the season begins, our coaches will evaluate athletes on snow during regular practices and training. Based on each athlete's on-snow performance, skiing ability, progression, confidence, and readiness, coaches may offer athletes to advance from Development 1 to Development 2 or Race Team. 

 

In addition, there may be instances where our coaches determine an athlete previously accepted onto the team is not yet ready for our team, even at the D1 level. If this were to occur, refunds for team dues will be provided, minus a $100 non-refundable deposit. Please note, HVST is an alpine race team focused on the disciplines of Giant Slalom and Slalom. It is not a 'learn to ski' program, which is provided separately through Hidden Valley resorts ski instructors.

Minimum Requirements to Join HVST

Although we will not be conducting tryouts, athletes must meet certain minimum skiing requirements to participate safely and independently with the team.

Athletes must be able to:

​

• Get on and off the ski lift independently

• Ski confidently with parallel turns and in control down the hill (potential athletes still skiing in a wedge will be considered to still be 'learning to ski' and refunds, minus non-refundable portion, will be provided)

• Manage and use ski poles

• Get up independently after falling on the hill

Acceptance into D1 is contingent upon the athlete being able to demonstrate these minimum skills once we are on the snow.

For the safety of the athlete, coaches, and other team members, our coaching staff reserves the right to revoke an athlete's spot if the athlete is unable to meet these minimum requirements.
